Renewable energy sources are energy resources that are inexhaustible within the time horizon of humanity. In the next 50 years, twice the current global prosperity must be achieved with half the energy and demand on natural resources. Renewable energies will be the key to this development, because they are the only option that can cover the energy demand of Earth in a climatically sustainable way.
The course of Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy Sources combines classical and modern trends related to the numerous uses of electrical energy, including renewable energy sources and electric vehicles.
The practical training takes place not only in modern training laboratories but also in the real production process of leading companies from all over the country.

Career paths:
– exploitation of renewable energy plants;
– exploitation and introducing technologies of electro-mechanical devices;

ANNOTATIONS

The specialty “Construction Management” is new for the Technical University – Varna, but with the ambition to meet the growing needs of the rapidly developing construction sector of specialists in the field of management. The specialty is “hybrid” and aims to provide in-depth training for future engineers – managers in construction in the field of economics and management of construction projects, as well as in the acquisition of knowledge fundamental to civil engineering.

Students will acquire skills for:
– construction and repair of buildings and facilities;
– planning of design and construction phases;
– planning and managing processes throughout the project life cycle;
– overall planning, coordination and control of the project from its very beginning to commissioning, to meet customer requirements and compliance with the implementation period, planned costs and quality;
implementation and operation of construction machinery, specialized technological equipment and means for construction activities;
– organizing and conducting tenders in construction, helping to determine their technical and economic efficiency, participating in the development of plans and schedules;
– ensuring the timely development of the project and its accompanying activities, tracking the costs of construction and administration of contracts.

Certified civil engineers in construction can be realized in the following areas:
> The overall planning, coordination and control of construction projects – cost management, time management for the implementation of the site and the scope of work, quality management;
> Exercising investor control;
> As managers of investment projects in investment companies;
> As a specialist – freelance consultants related to the management of construction production;

CURRICULUM

The engineer majoring in Artificial Intelligence (AI) with a Bachelor’s degree receives the necessary training to solve practical problems by applying a systematic approach, using modern methods and tools in a dynamically changing professional field. He is prepared to perform research, design, construction, production, installation, operation and management activities in the field of his specialty. The latter covers artificial intelligence systems and computer technology, not only as a separate field, but also as tools designed to solve problems in various fields of human activity. The engineer must be able to prepare and use a variety of technical documentation related to the organization of production, installation, maintenance and servicing of technical projects.

Its implementation can be in both the public and private sectors of the economy, services and services. The engineer majoring in AI is prepared to be able to easily adapt to the requirements of different hierarchical levels in companies and organizations with diverse activities.

Qualification skills are acquired through the application of various forms of learning. Professional knowledge is built on three levels – general-engineering and general-special foundations, which, having functional completeness, allow the choice of a specialized superstructure within the specialty.

1. General engineering training includes training in the field of natural sciences such as: Mathematics (problematic in accordance with the specific requirements of the specialty); System analysis; Electronics; English for IT engineers.

2. General special training includes training in the field of artificial intelligence such as: Basic programming; Logic and automata; Algorithms and data structures; Computer organization; High performance computer system architectures; Object oriented programming; Operating Systems; Databases; Software technologies, Microprocessor systems.

3. The preparation in the specialized level includes the training in: Fundamentals of artificial intelligence; Introduction to machine learning; Sensors, actuators and controllers; Selected methods for machine learning, as well as compulsory elective courses from a list of 16 offered titles, which are constantly updated. Electives in the curriculum allow students to specialize in their desire in hardware or software, as well as in specific issues.

The Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence must be able to:
– Defining tasks, the solution of which requires the application of artificial intelligence and developing effective solutions for these tasks;
– Solving basic tasks in the field of artificial intelligence – forecasting, recognition, classification;
– Application of modern methods and algorithms of machine learning and neural networks to solve scientific and practical problems of high complexity;
– Processing, analysis and visualization of large amounts of data;
– Development of intelligent systems based on robots and sensors.

The objects of professional activity of the engineer majoring in “Cyber ​​Security” are related to the development, implementation and application of standards and good practices for information security, cybersecurity and data protection, including organizational and technological measures for protection of networks and information systems , computer systems, internet based applications.

ANNOTATIONS

The specialty Intelligent Transport Systems (Automotive Electronics) includes basic knowledge of: Automotive electronics; Electric cars and Intelligent transport systems: autonomous vehicle management systems, infrastructure for charging of electric cars, intelligent traffic management systems and other modern technologies. Successful graduates will find employment mainly in areas related to the development, production and operation of electronic devices, automotive electronics, electric cars and intelligent transport systems.

During the first two academic years are studied a wide range of fundamental and general technical disciplines. In the third and fourth academic years, students develop as specialists in electronics, focusing on automotive technology. Students have an additional opportunity to choose from several areas of specialization, and depending on their choice, they receive more in-depth training in: Automotive Electronics, Electric Cars, Intelligent Transport Systems.Modern software packages for computer simulation and design MATLAB, PSPICE, Altium Designer, etc., development systems for Texas Instruments, Xilinx, Altera, Agilent, National Instruments, etc., as well as the programming of C / C ++ / C # and VHDL / Verilog, Python, provide opportunities for modern practical training as well as for research and applied development.

The realization of electronics engineers is in many Bulgarian and foreign companies, such as: Kontrax Bulgaria, Renesas Electronics Corporation, Broadcom, Visteon Electronics, SmartCom, Sensata Technologies, Sonic Hybrids Ltd, Technosens Ltd., Eldominvest Ltd., Melexis Semiconductors, Microsystems Ltd. and others. For some students, some of the companies offer scholarships and opportunities to increase their practical training through summer internships in a real work environment.

The international contacts of the department provide an opportunity for annual specialized training of outstanding students and doctoral students at universities in Belgium, Greece, France, England and Germany, and since 2016. – and in Spain. The Department of Electronic Engineering and Microelectronics participates in national and international projects and provides students with opportunities to join the teams in some of them. In connection with the launched project, students can carry out international mobility in partner foreign universities: Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany; Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU), Lithuania; Politehnica University of Bucharest (PUB), Romania.

The students having graduated in Intelligent Transport Systems (Automotive Electronics) with Bachelor’s degree are entitled to continue their studies in the same major for Master’s degree.

CURRICULUM

 

During the first two academic years the students receive fundamental and general technical training, and during the third and fourth years they receive theoretical knowledge and acquire practical skills in basic and profiling disciplines that provide knowledge in: PLC programming (Programmable logic controllers); development of Web-based applications for PLC; computer modeling of automatic control systems; design, implementation, setup and operation of computer control systems; development of software for control microcomputer systems; construction and administration of industrial computer networks.
The practical training of students is carried out in the modernized laboratories of the Department of Production Automation, equipped with modern measuring, information and control equipment of Siemens, Festo, Texas Instruments, Microchip, ABB, Moeller, Analog Devices, National Instruments, etc. as well as in leading companies and engineering companies in the region.The main goal is to train highly qualified specialists for activities related to design, implementation, setup and operation of computer systems for automatic control of technological processes and technical complexes for automation in all areas of industry, building automation and management.
The general and specialized training of the engineer in his specialty allows him to work as: designer of automated systems for process control; system engineer for development and operation of information and management computer systems; administrator of industrial computer networks; building automation engineer; operator in the command hall; instrumentation and A engineer (control and measuring devices and automation); manager of a department, engineering or industrial company and in the field of education.
During the training, students have the opportunity to realize mobility in universities from Germany, the Czech Republic, Sweden, France, England, Slovenia, Turkey and others. After completing their studies, students have the opportunity to continue their education in higher education – Master’s and Doctor’s degree.

Course content (specialized training):

Theory, construction, maintenance, service and repair of internal combustion engines and motor vehicles. During the curriculum students gain indepth knowledge of internal combustion engines and transport machines (automobiles, tractors, etc).
Additionally students have the opportunity to obtain a driving license.

Career paths:

– engineering, maintenance, service and repair of motor vehicles;
– planning and management of motor vehicle transport;
– working in various state enterprises, municipal and private organizations, that design, produce, use, sell, maintain and repair transport vehicles;
– working individually as consultant and expert in road accidents and insurance events, related with vehicles.

Course Duration: 4 semesters (2 years), including 3 semesters of academic and practical classes and 1 semester of MEng Thesis preparation.

Requirements: The Master’s Degree Course of Design of Marine Installations and Systems is oriented to graduates who have obtained a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in the field of Technology (Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS).  The speciality is in the Professional field of Transport, navigation and aviation.

Upon successful completion of this MEng Course, the graduates are awarded a MEng Degree in Design of Maritime Arrangements and Systems and a Professional Qualification ‘Master of Engineering’.

 

Career path: The objective of the Design of Marine Installations and Systems MEng course is to train highly qualified engineers possessing in-depth knowledge and skills in the broad range of design, modelling and studying of ships and marine structures using specialized software CAD/CAM, FEA and CFD programmes and applications. The Design of Marine Installations and Systems graduates could practice their in-depth knowledge in our country or abroad as:

A large number of companies in Bulgaria and abroad successfully operate in the field of marine design, with their production being designed exclusively for the world maritime market of newbuild design and retrofit of ships and marine structures in service. These companies which offer excellent working conditions, opportunities for qualification upgrade and specialization in leading companies abroad, and pay for engineering work in line with European standards require that the future engineers have the knowledge and skills to design and use state-of-the-art programming tools and systems.

The MEng Design of Marine Installations and Systems graduates have the option to continue their education for acquiring a PhD Degree. 1) 3 semesters (1,5 years)

Requirements: The course is oriented to graduates who have acquired a Bachelor’s Degree Course in Marine Engineering associated with the regulated profession of Ship Engineer

2) 6 semesters (3 years), including a specialty state examination, in compliance with the requirements of the STCW Convention, as amended, and a state examination in English Language.

Requirements: The Master’s Marine Engineering course is oriented to Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree graduates of other specialties in the field of Technology (Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS).

The MEng Marine Engineering Course curriculum is approved by the Executive Agency “Maritime Administration” and meet the requirements of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978, as amended (STCW Convention).

The graduates are awarded a MEng Marine Engineering Diploma and the Professional Qualification “Ship’s Engineer Officer”.

The practical training of the students is carried out in modern laboratories and in a real production environment with the assistance of leading companies in the industry. The in-depth professional preparation enables the graduates to develop as leading designers, directors, managers, experts, consultants, educators in different areas in Bulgarian and international companies. The graduates could continue their academic education for obtaining a PhD Degree in the field of Electrical Engineering.

Course Duration: 5 semesters (2.5 years)

Requirements: The course is designed for graduates who have acquired a Professional Bachelor’s Degree in the Professional field: 5.2. Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automation.

Career path: The students are provided with knowledge of fundamental subjects, such as Electrical Engineering; Renewable Energy Sources; Electrical Machines; Electrical Devices, etc. in the first year of study, i.e. the first two semesters. Upon successful completion of the first year of study, the training follows the curriculum of the 1,5 years’ course of Renewable Energy Sources.
The students who have successfully obtained the Professional Qualification Degree ‘Master of Engineering’ in Renewable Energy Sources acquire a qualification in the area of RES power generation systems design, construction and operation, control and monitoring of their performance, economic and legal aspects of their certification and their connection to power networks. The practical training of the students is carried out in modern laboratories and in a real production environment with the assistance of leading companies in the industry. The in-depth professional preparation enables the graduates to develop as leading designers, directors, managers, experts, consultants, educators in different areas in Bulgarian and international companies.

 

The graduates could continue their academic education for obtaining a PhD Degree in the corresponding professional field.

The first two semesters is designed as compensating for the differences in the Bachelor’s course of education and ensures the knowledge otherwise acquired during the Bachelor’s Degree Course in Agronomy.

Career path:

The main goal of the training is to prepare highly qualified agricultural specialists who have obtained competences across the whole range of agricultural seed production (field, vegetable and perennial crops).

Requirements: This is a consecutive Master’s Degree Course designed for those who have acquired a Bachelor’s Degree in Navigation. The graduation procedure is a Master’s Thesis Defence, the third (last) semester focusing on the thesis preparation. No visual acuity and color vision deficiency is acceptable.

The Training Course meets the requirements of the STCW Convention and complies with IMO Model Course 7.01. The curriculum and the syllabi are approved by the Executive agency “Maritime Administration”.

Requirements: The course is designed to be accessible by those who have successfully completed a Bachelor’s Degree Course of Naval Architecture and Marine Technology.

2) 4 semesters (2 years)

Requirements: The course is oriented to graduates who have successfully completed the Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Professional field: 5.1. Mechanical Engineering; 5.5. Transport, Navigation and Aviation (except for the course of Naval Architecture and Marine technology); 5.13. General Engineering and 5.7. Architecture, Construction and Geodesy.

The training is carried out according to a unified curriculum, the first semester being intended for the Bachelors and Masters in different professional fields. It is focused on the basic subjects and acquiring the fundamental knowledge required, which is otherwise provided by the Bachelor’s Degree Course of Shipbuilding and Marine technology. The graduates who have completed this course start their training from the second semester. The last semester (forth semester) focuses on the Master’s Thesis preparation.

Career path: Upon successful completion of the degree course, the graduates could seek for career development in the fields of design, construction, control, standardization, research and education in the sphere of shipbuilding in the country and abroad.
The training and the knowledge and skill acquired meet the requirements of all the hierarchical levels and units of:
– shipbuilding and ship repair enterprises and companies;
– research institutes and companies in the field of shipbuilding, ship repair, marine technology and water transport;
– classification and standardization organizations;
– ship and marine design organizations, offices and companies;
– technical subdivisions of water transport, construction and technical fleet;

The curriculum of the Degree Course includes subjects related to the designing and building of small boats (boats and yachts, motor yachts, small passenger ships, specialized ships, etc.)

Career path: The Master of Engineering in Electronics is well prepared to conduct research, design, manufacturing, operation, commercial and management activities in their professional field in the public and private sectors of industry, power engineering, medicine, science and education.
In the general part of the course the Master of Engineering in Electronics acquires in-depth knowledge of power electronic devices, advanced electronic measurement equipment, control and automation, digital signal processing, and digital systems design, including FPGA, using a hardware design language.
The learners become acquainted with European directives, standarts and systems for electronic equipment certification as well as management and marketing issues related to company’s activities.
The established international contacts of the department provide the opportunity for specializations and Diploma Thesis development in various European countries such as Belgium, Finland, England, France, Germany and Spain under the ERASMUS+ programme.
The graduates of the Master’s Degree Programme have the opportunity to choose of the following specialisations:
Specialisation in INDUSTRIAL ELECTRONICS providing additional professional knowledge and skills related to the modern analysis methods, modelling and designing of electronic converters and components, including the up to date electronic systems for renewable energy sources. The training is conducted under the ERASMUS+ mobility programme and in close collaboration with universities in Ghent, Belgium and in Nottingham, England.
Specialisation in MEDICAL ELECTRONICS providing additional professional specialised preparation in the area of the medicine and medical equipment, allowing successful career development in servicing, repair and maintenance of medical electronic equipment in the technical departments of health facilities. Other possible career path involves companies operating in the field of medical electronic equipment commerce, repair and maintenance as well as companies dealing with new medical equipment development and manufacture.
Specialisation in MICROELECTRONICS providing preparation in the field of analogue, digital and mixed integrated circuits design. The graduates acquire the skills required to apply and use up to date electronic systems computer design technologies. They could execute schemotechnical design, simulation, verification, topological design of integrated circuits. They are familiarised and can work with Cadence, Synopsys, Xilinx design environments. They could work in companies which design and implement integrated circuits and electronic systems, such as the high-tech companies operating in Bulgaria, i.e. Melexis, AMIS, IDT (former ZMDI), ASIC Depot, SENSATA, etc. The training is conducted in close collaboration with the Technical University of Sofia, IDT – Varna, ASIC Depot, etc.

The Bachelor of Engineering in Automotive Engineering acquires knowledge and skills that allow him to work in the field of: design, production of automotive equipment and its components, repair and maintenance, as well as control, technology and organization of transport. During their studies, students majoring in Automotive Engineering can specialize in leading European universities under the Erasmus program. After completing the Bachelor’s degree, those interested can continue their education in master’s programs specialized in the field of transport technology.

Requirements: The course is designed for graduates who have successfully completed the Bachelor`s or Master’s Degree programmes in the Professional fields: 6.1.  Seed Production or 6.2. Plant Protection.

Requirements: The course is oriented to the graduates of all other Bachelor`s or Master’s Degree programmes. The first two semesters compensates for the differences in the Bachelor’s course of education and ensures the knowledge otherwise acquired during the Bachelor’s Degree Course in Agronomy.

Career path:

The main goal of the training is to prepare highly qualified agricultural specialists who have obtained competences across the whole range of agricultural seed production and the plant protection.
The graduates of the Degree Course of Seed Production and Plant Protection will acquire a Master’s Degree Diploma in addition with the Professional Qualifiacation “Agronomist” and their career perspectives include:
– sowing material manufacturers and merchants;
– consultants in agricultural seed production and plant protection companies;
– experts, inspectors and consultants in the Executive Agency of variety testing, probing and seed control, the Bulgarian agency for food safety and other institutions at national and regional level;

Renewable energy sources are energy resources that are inexhaustible within the time horizon of humanity. In the next 50 years, twice the current global prosperity must be achieved with half the energy and demand on natural resources. Renewable energies will be the key to this development, because they are the only option that can cover the energy demand of Earth in a climatically sustainable way.
The course of Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy Sources combines classical and modern trends related to the numerous uses of electrical energy, including renewable energy sources and electric vehicles.
The practical training takes place not only in modern training laboratories but also in the real production process of leading companies from all over the country.

The Mechanical Engineer – heat engineer is trained to carry out design, construction, production and management, operation and repair, research in the technological field, covering heating, ventilation and air conditioning installations of different purposes, cooling and freezing systems, industrial heating systems, heat and mass exchangers, systems for utilization of renewable and non-conventional energy sources, etc.
The professional realization of the engineer in the field of heat engineering is energy, renewable energy, light, food, chemical industry, etc., heat and gas supply of industrial and residential sites, construction, trade, tourism, administration and management of urban systems. They are part of the construction supervisors’ team, and after a course on energy efficiency auditing of buildings and industrial systems, they acquire the qualification of energy efficiency consultants.
